P-Shot FAQs
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR THE P SHOT® PROCEDURE?
- AVOID the use of NSAIDS (ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve, Naproxen, Aspirin, etc.) 3-7 days before procedure (Tylenol is OK for pain relief right up to and including the day of procedure – do not exceed 4000mg in a 24 hour period).
- AVOID the following nutritional supplements for 3-7 days before procedure - Ginko Biloba, Garlic, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Flax Oil, Curcumin and other anti-inflammatory nutrients.
- AVOID the Systemic use of corticosteroids for 1-2 weeks before the procedure.
- AVOID Alcohol and Cigarettes for 3-7 days before the procedure.
- HYDRATE very well the day before and the day of the procedure for ease of blood draw.
WHAT WILL I NEED TO DO, AND NOT DO, AFTER THE PROCEDURE?
The week after the procedure for best results:
- Bruising may occur due to the negative pressure of the pump
- Follow the post procedure pumping protocol (10 minutes – AM and PM)
- AVOID the use of NSAIDS (ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve, Naproxen, Aspirin, etc.) 3-7 days after procedure (Tylenol is OK for pain relief – do not exceed 4000mg in a 24 hour period).
- AVOID the following nutritional supplements for 3-7 days after the procedure - Ginko Biloba, Garlic, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Flax Oil, Curcumin and other anti-inflammatory nutrients.
- AVOID the Systemic use of corticosteroids for 1-2 weeks after the procedure.
- AVOID Alcohol and Cigarettes for 3-7 days after the procedure.
- EAT a healthy diet and HYDRATE very well – at least 64 ounces of clean fresh water.
- Receive prescription from pharmacy if provided. Call office when refill is necessary.
- Attend 4-week follow up appointment with provider for further instructions and intervention if necessary.
WHAT IS PRP?
PRP is prepared by drawing the patient’s blood (like a lab test) and separating the blood cells from the plasma (liquid portion). The platelets sit at the top of the cell portion and release growth factors that start the healing process after an injury. This process results in the growth of new blood vessels.
DOES THE P SHOT HURT?
The PRP is relatively “thin” and can be injected with a small needle. There is a thick membrane under the penis skin and covering the blood vessels (called the tunica). Patients will momentarily (less than a second) feel the needle passing through this space but after the needle is in the blood vessels and during injection there is little, if any, sensation.
WILL I BE ABLE TO STOP TAKING ED MEDS IF I HAVE THE P SHOT?
Many patients who have used these medications (PDE-5 drugs) find that they can begin to lose their effectiveness and require increasing dosages. The P-Shot/Gainswave procedures will often restore effectiveness to patients who have stopped responding to medications or reduce/eliminate the need for them. Dr. Bowen often prescribes a low daily dose of tadalafil both to enhance the effectiveness of the procedure and for its beneficial effects on the vascular system in the entire body -- especially the brain and heart.
DO YOU OFFER OTHER SERVICES FOR ED?
Yes, we offer pulse wave treatments, also called Gainswave, which is a non-invasive treatment usually performed once a week for 6 weeks. The pulse wave treatment has results similar to the P Shot and may be combined with the P Shot for even more dramatic effect. A single wave treatment is included with and done just before the P Shot. The most powerful single treatment that we offer is called Caverstem. This is done by harvesting stem cells from bone marrow and injecting them in the same way as the P Shot.
GAINSWave® FAQs
What is GAINSWave® / shockwave therapy?
GAINSWave® is a noninvasive treatment that uses low-intensity acoustic (shockwave) energy to stimulate blood vessel growth, improve circulation, and support tissue regeneration. It is commonly used to improve erectile performance, blood flow, and sexual wellness.
How does the treatment work?
The acoustic waves create controlled mechanical stimulation within the tissue, which may promote angiogenesis (new blood vessel formation), enhanced circulation, and improved tissue responsiveness over time.
Is the procedure painful?
Most patients tolerate treatment very well. Sensations are typically described as tapping, pulsing, or mild discomfort rather than pain. No anesthesia or sedation is generally required.
How long does a session take?
Most treatments require approximately 20–30 minutes and are performed in the office with no downtime afterward.
How many treatments are usually recommended?
Protocols vary depending on goals and severity of symptoms, but many patients undergo a series of 6–12 treatments over several weeks for optimal results.
When will I notice results?
Some patients notice improvements within a few weeks, while others experience more gradual changes over 1–3 months as vascular and tissue remodeling occurs.
P-Long FAQs
Is P-Long safe?
Yes. 0% of P-Long Study participants experienced negative side-effects or complications after receiving treatment. T0 learn more about the P-Long Study, click here.
How much length can I expect?
Patients can expect to increase the length of their manhood by almost a full inch.
How much girth can I expect?
P-Long patients can expect to increase the girth of their manhood by up to half an inch.
How long do the results last?
Unlike temporary fillers that only last between 1-2 years, P-Long results are expected to last long.
After you have braces, your teeth do not go back to the way they were. We believe that as long as a man is having rigid night time erections, that his erectile length and girth will maintain. It may be a good idea for men to continue to take AFFIRM after completing the P-Long protocol. Studies show that boosting Nitric Oxide naturally improves erectile health and that there are other significant health benefits including improved athletic performance, cognition, blood pressure and immune system function. And there are no known negative side effects.
Does the P-Long Protocol work on men with ED?
We do not know. The Protocol was designed for healthy men with normal erectile function. Men with ED usually do not generate the penile blood pressure to maximally stretch their manhood.
Can I just use the traction device and pump without the injections?
Probably not. The growth factors from 1.5 billion platelets injection into the penis once a month for six months will accelerate the changes seen with the traction and suction devices. Our best guess is that it doubles or triples the effectiveness of the protocol. Besides, if the PRP injection is done properly, it should be minimally uncomfortable.
What is the range of results?
For length, after six months men grew as much as 1.5 inches and as little as 0.5 inches in length and as much as 0.75 inches and as little as 0.25 inches in girth.
TRT FAQs
What is Testosterone Replacement Therapy?
Testosterone Replacement Therapy is a medical treatment used to restore testosterone levels in people with clinically low testosterone (hypogonadism). It can improve symptoms like fatigue, low libido, erectile dysfunction, reduced muscle mass, depressed mood, and low energy.
How do I know if I have low testosterone?
Diagnosis usually requires:
- Symptoms consistent with low testosterone
- Blood tests showing low testosterone levels, typically measured in the morning
Common symptoms:
- Low sex drive
- Erectile dysfunction
- Fatigue
- Depression or irritability
- Loss of muscle mass
- Increased body fat
- Brain fog
What forms of TRT are available?
Common options include
- Gels or creams
- Pellets implanted under the skin
Each has different costs, convenience, and side-effect profiles.
How long does TRT take to work?
Typical timelines:
- Libido/energy: 3–6 weeks
- Mood improvements: 4–8 weeks
- Muscle mass/strength: 2–6 months

Results vary by person.
What are the risks or side effects?
Possible side effects include:
- Acne or oily skin
- Increased red blood cell count
- Sleep apnea worsening
- Breast tenderness
- Fertility reduction
- Testicular shrinkage
- Fluid retention
- Mood changes
TRT may increase hematocrit levels, so regular blood monitoring is important.
Does TRT cause infertility?
Yes, TRT can significantly reduce sperm production and fertility. Men who want children often discuss alternatives such as:
- Clomiphene
- Human chorionic gonadotropin with Dr. Bowen.
Does TRT increase prostate cancer risk?
Current evidence has not shown that TRT directly causes prostate cancer, but doctors generally monitor:
- PSA levels
- Prostate symptoms
- Digital rectal exams when appropriate
People with active prostate cancer are usually not candidates for TRT.
Will TRT help build muscle?
TRT can improve:
- Lean muscle mass
- Recovery
- Strength
But it works best alongside:
- Resistance training
- Good sleep
- Proper nutrition
TRT is not the same as anabolic steroid abuse.
Is TRT lifelong?
Often, yes. If TRT is stopped, testosterone levels may return to previous low levels and symptoms can recur. Some people use TRT temporarily under medical supervision.
What monitoring is needed on TRT?
Doctors commonly monitor:
- Testosterone levels
- Hematocrit/hemoglobin
- PSA
- Liver function
- Cholesterol
- Blood pressure
Follow-up is typically every 3–6 months
Who should avoid TRT?
TRT may not be appropriate for people with:
- Untreated severe sleep apnea
- Active prostate or breast cancer
- Very high hematocrit
- Uncontrolled heart failure
- Recent cardiovascular events
Dr. Bowen will evaluate risks individually
Is TRT legal?
Yes, when prescribed by a licensed medical provider. Testosterone is a controlled substance in the United States.
Emsella FAQs
Is EMSELLA painful?
Most patients do not describe it as painful. You may feel strong pelvic floor muscle contractions during the session.
Do I need to undress?
No. You remain fully clothed during treatment.

Is EMSELLA safe?
EMSELLA should be performed under the supervision of a qualified provider such as Dr. Bowen.
O-Shot FAQs
What is the O-Shot?
The O-Shot (“Orgasm Shot”) is a procedure that uses platelet-rich plasma (PRP) made from your own blood. The PRP is injected into vaginal tissue with the goal of improving sexual function, lubrication, sensitivity, or urinary leakage symptoms.
How does the procedure work?
- A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm
- The blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate PRP
- Numbing cream/local anesthetic is applied
- PRP is injected into targeted vaginal tissues
The visit usually takes about 60 minutes.
What issues could receiving the O-Shot address?
- Difficulty reaching orgasm
- Vaginal dryness
- Pain during intercourse
- Reduced sensation
- Mild stress urinary incontinence (leaking urine when coughing/sneezing)
Is it painful?
Most patients describe the procedure as mildly uncomfortable because numbing cream is used first.
Are there side effects or risks?
Possible side effects include:
- Temporary soreness or swelling
- Bruising or spotting
- Infection risk
- Urinary discomfort
Because injections are involved, no procedure is completely risk-free.
How long do results last?
- Some people report several months
- Others report 1–3 years
- There is no universally established duration.
Who should avoid it?
Patients who:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have active infections
- Have certain blood disorders
- Have some cancers or clotting conditions
A medical evaluation is important beforehand.
Is there downtime afterward?
Most people return to normal activities the same day, though mild tenderness can occur for a few days.
Is there anything else I should be aware of?
As the O-shot depends on the effects of growth factors derived from platelets, platelet inhibiting medicines such as ibuprofen(Motrin), aspirin, and naproxen sodium(Alleve) should be discontinued prior to and for 3 days after the procedure.

PureLipo FAQs
HOW DOES PURELIPO WORK?
PureLipo is an advanced tumescent liposculpture procedure performed without general anesthesia, using very small instruments in order to permanently remove excess fat from most areas of the body. It is called “tumescent” because the physician fills and swells the fatty areas to be removed with a special solution containing local anesthetic. The fat is then removed with straw-like tubes called cannulas, which are much smaller than those used in traditional liposuction. Because the tumescent solution anesthetizes the area, no general anesthesia or heavy sedation is required. Dr. Bowen artistically sculpts the body into a new shape using these delicate instruments. The finer instruments allow him to target specific areas with increased accuracy and control.
HOW DID DR. BOWEN LEARN TO PERFORM PURELIPO?
Dr. Bowen went through the rigorous PureLipo physician training program developed by the physicians and surgical assistants that perfected the PureLipo technique. This training involved extensive didactic and hands-on, supervised instruction and training in all aspects of the PureLipo technique. Dr. Bowen started offering this service in 2010.
WHAT IS TUMESCENT ANESTHESIA?
The tumescent technique involves the injection of a diluted anesthetic fluid directly into the fat, causing the area to become swollen and firm. This technique eliminates the need for general anesthesia and reduces the bleeding associated with traditional surgery. The tumescent technique results in a procedure that is safe and less painful, with minimal recovery time and typically better results.
WHY DON'T ALL PHYSICIANS USE THE TUMESCENT TECHNIQUE?
A simple answer is that with the use of small instruments and less intense suction, this procedure often takes about twice as long to perform as traditional liposuction while costing much less. Also, this new form of body sculpture also requires specific training different from that required for traditional lipo.
HOW DO I KNOW IF THIS PROCEDURE IS RIGHT FOR ME?
The best way is to have a consultation with Dr. Bowen. You can fill out our "Contact Us" form to get started in your journey.
HOW IS PURELIPO DIFFERENT?
Dr. Bowen uses a variety of techniques depending on the needs of the individual patient, including aspiration with a syringe for fine sculpting, nutational infrasonic liposculpture (NIL) to more gently loosen fat prior to aspiration, and laser or radiofrequency after liposculpting to achieve increased skin tightening, if necessary. Often, several or all of those techniques will be used at different times during the same procedure. It all depends on what is needed in your specific case to address your specific concerns.
WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?
Almost any area on the body where there is pinch-able fat can be treated, removing the fat in a single session.
IS THE PROCEDURE PAINFUL?
There is minimal discomfort during the initial administration of the tumescent solution. Patients report varying levels of discomfort thereafter, and, Dr. Bowen has a number of options at his disposal to address any pain the patient does experience. Post-procedure bruising and discomfort is minimized due to the nature of the PureLipo™ procedure.
IS PURELIPO PERMANENT?
The body’s shape and its contour following PureLipo™ are permanent for the most part. Fat cells that are removed by PureLipo™ do not grow back. As long as you do not gain excessive weight, the shape and contour is permanent.
IS PURELIPO EXPENSIVE?
With PureLipo there is no need for expensive surgical rooms or general anesthesia. Therefore, it often costs thousands of dollars less than other forms of liposuction. Although it depends upon what areas are going to be treated, a typical procedure costs less than $5,000, which could be less than half the cost of traditional liposuction.
WHY PURELIPO?
If you have considered liposuction, but are concerned about the cost and potential side effects that traditional liposuction brings, then you should consider PureLipo BodySculpting with Dr. Bowen. This tumescent liposuction procedure offers fat reduction with fewer side effects and a lower cost than traditional liposuction.
With PureLipo there is no general anesthesia, reducing both cost and risk. Instead, Dr. Bowen uses what’s called TUMESCENT FLUID to swell the fatty tissue (to make it easier to remove) and to provide pain relief to area being worked on. Using tumescent fluid rather than general anesthesia also allows the procedure to be safely performed in the office, saving the costs of a surgery center and the additional fees of an anesthesiologist.
There is less downtime, no sutures, greater skin tightening, and usually a cost that is thousands of dollars less than other liposuction procedures. PureLipo permanently removes fat … at a price you can afford and with the outstanding results you are looking for.
Get rid of fat on your abdomen, hips, buttock, thighs, arms, love handles, under your chin, or just about anywhere on your body. PureLipo™ BodySculpting removes fat that can sometimes be hard to lose, even on people who are not considered overweight.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PURELIPO?
Great Results:
- The use of a very small cannula (tube-like instrument) to perform the procedure, coupled with smaller incisions, the doctor’s extensive liposculpture-specific training, and the use of tumescent fluid, often allows for better bodysculpting results than found with other forms of liposuction.
Quick Recovery:
- With PureLipo, the lack of general anesthesia in this in-office procedure allows for much less downtime. Typically, a patient will have the procedure done and be back to work and normal activities within a few days.
- There is typically less bruising and discomfort due to the use of the tumescent fluid and the small instruments used in the procedure.
Lower Costs:
- PureLipo is performed in-office under local anesthesia and minimal sedation, resulting in a significantly lower cost than traditional liposuction. There is no need to pay for the anesthesiologist and surgical center.
Less Risk:
- Requiring only a local tumescent anesthetic, PureLipo is not associated with the risks of general anesthesia.
- PureLipo does not use a heated laser to remove the fat, therefore there is no risk of burn.
Liposuction w/ J Plasma / Renuvion FAQs
What is J Plasma / Renuvion?
Renuvion is a minimally invasive skin-tightening technology that uses helium plasma and radiofrequency energy beneath the skin to tighten tissue and improve skin laxity.
What areas can be treated?
Common treatment areas include:
- Chin and neck
- Arms
- Knees
Who is a good candidate?
Good candidates are typically:
- Near their goal weight
In generally good health - Struggling with stubborn fat and mild-to-moderate loose skin
- Looking for improvement without large surgical scars
Patients with severe excess skin after major weight loss may still require procedures like a tummy tuck or body lift.
Is the procedure surgical?
Yes, it is considered minimally invasive surgery. Small incisions are used for liposuction and insertion of the Renuvion cannula.
Is anesthesia required?
The procedure is performed under tumescent anesthesia immediately after PureLipo while the area is still numb.
How long does the procedure take?
Renuvion typically adds about 30 minutes per treatment area to a standard liposuction procedure.
What is recovery like?
The recovery usually involves no more than does liposuction alone.
Many return to desk work within several days, though full healing and skin tightening continue for months. Compression garments are commonly recommended.
When will I see results?
Some tightening may be noticeable immediately, but final results usually develop over 6–9 months as collagen remodeling occurs.
Are the results permanent?
Results can be long-lasting if weight remains stable and healthy lifestyle habits are maintained.
Does Renuvion replace a tummy tuck?
Not always. Renuvion works best for mild-to-moderate skin laxity. Patients with muscle separation and significant hanging skin may still need surgical repair and skin removal procedures.
What are the risks?
There is minimal additional risk to adding Renuvion to liposuction.

BBL FAQs
WHY CHOOSE BBL TREATMENT AT DR. BOWEN'S OFFICE?
Expertise & Experience
Dr. Bowen is an expert in the use of light in medicine, and he and his laser specialists have the greatest depth of training and experience locally in the use of BBL technology for a wide variety of skin complaints.
Amazing Results
Typically, patients see some improvement in pigment and tone even with one treatment! However, multiple sessions can be performed at an interval of about every 4 weeks until the desired results have been achieved.
Comfortable and Quick
The unique, advanced cooling capabilities of BBL HERO ensure treatments are more comfortable than ever, while the speed of the device can treat even large areas (for example, full back, full legs) in a very reasonable amount of time!
HOW DO I GET READY FOR A BBL TREATMENT?
- Avoid tanning beds, self-tanner and direct sun exposure 2 to 4 weeks prior to your appointment.
- Also, use sunscreen and physical sun protection.
- Stop using topical retinol products, as they increase skin sensitivity.
- Inform us if you have taken the medication Accutane in the last 6 months. You should not have treatment until at least 6 months after you have discontinued Accutane.
- Inform Dr. Bowen of any medical conditions or medications you are taking that might make you more sensitive to light, affect wound healing or affect coagulation.
WHAT AFTERCARE DO I NEED TO FOLLOW?
- Strictly avoid any sun exposure to the treated area for a minimum of 7 – 14 days after the procedure. The treated area is more prone to sunburn and pigmentation change. Keep the area covered and use a sun block with a protection factor of 30+, and reapply every 2 hours.
- Delayed blistering secondary to sun exposure has been noted up to 72 hours post treatment. What this means is that you can give yourself a complication post-BBL even days after your treatment by exposing the treated skin to sun. Protect your investment!
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO NOTICE RESULTS?
Roughly three weeks, though some changes -- like a reduction in redness -- might be noticed sooner.
IS BBL SAFE FOR DARKER SKIN TONES?
Yes, it can be, but settings must be expertly adjusted to make that a reality.
DOES BBL TREATMENT HURT?
Typically, patients report a slight feeling of warmth during a BBL HERO treatment. If you should experience the treatment as painful, it is critical that you provide this feedback to your provider while you are in treatment, as pain is a sign that the energy settings of your treatment need to be adjusted downward.

HALO FAQs
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT MY HALO APPOINTMENT?
Your provider will clean your skin and apply a topical number cream. You will have the numbing cream on for approximately 45 minutes before your HALO starts. It will be removed and your skin will be cleansed again before treatment starts. Protective eyewear will be placed over your eyes. Your provider will then roll the HALO handpiece across your skin to measure it (doesn't feel like anything). It is normal and expected to feel some heat with this treatment, despite the device's advanced cooling mechanisms. At the end of the treatment, you skin will be pink-to-red and warm, with the sensation of windburn/sunburn. You may have some pinpoint bleeding, depending on the depth of treatment. Your provider will apply cool dressings, and, if you find it helpful, you can also cool your skin down after treatment using our air/chiller device. The cool down portion of treatment in the office is generally 15 to 30 minutes. Before you leave, your provider will apply an occlusive (barrier) cream over the treated skin, to keep it from becoming dehydrated, and will review all your aftercare instructions with you. The medical-grade skin care products you are to use as your skin is recovering are provided to you (included).
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO AFTER MY HALO TREATMENT?
Sunscreen should be applied daily with no direct sun exposure for at least 7 days post-treatment.
Your provider will have detailed, written Aftercare instructions for you to follow and will provide you with the medical-grade products you are to use in the week after your treatment.
Helpful tips:
- Sleep with your head elevated to minimize swelling. It is not unusual to have swollen eyes when you wake up the morning after your HALO treatment. This typically gets significantly better as the day goes on.
- Change your pillowcase nightly and avoid sleeping with your pets until your skin is fully recovered.
- Avoid strenuous exercise and sweating until your skin has healed.
- Do not use any cleansing devices or brushes (e.g., Clarisonic) or exfoliating scrubs or other topical products (other than those provided to you) for at least 10 days following your treatment.
- Do not let your skin dry out; keep applying the skin barrier cream and/or CeraVe moisturizer as needed.
- Do not bump, pick, scratch, or itch the area in any way. Hands off your face!
WHAT'S THE RECOVERY LIKE, AND, WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
Patient experiences vary, but, generally your skin will feel tight, you'll have some swelling and you will feel like you have a sunburn.
On days two to three, you'll begin to see what is referred to as "MENDS" (microscopic epidermal necrotic debris). MENDS show up as a bronzed appearance to the skin and the skin becoming more textured. This dead skin will fall off by day 4 or 5, depending on the treatment depth and intensity. This is when you really begin to see the "HALO Glow"... brighter, tighter, more even-looking skin!
You will see most of the results from your HALO in the first month after treatment, but you skin will continue to improve over the next several months. We like to take the patient's "After" photos at 4 months after treatment.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
This depends on your skin's starting point, and what you goal is. Dr. Bowen will advise you at the consultation what type/degree of improvement can be expected after 1 treatment and whether he wants you to incorporate HALO treatment on a yearly basis for optimization.

Neurotoxin ‘Tox’ Injections FAQs
HOW MUCH WILL I NEED?
It depends, of course!
What is considered a standard dose for each treatable area has to do with which Tox brand is being used, how the medication is reconstituted, the relative strength of the patient's facial muscles, and the patient's cosmetic goal. Some patients have the goal of "no movement"; others call that "being frozen," and wish to avoid it.
Please refer to this set of guidelines for an estimate of the number of units needed in various parts of the face.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
Tox results last an average of 3 to 4 months.
WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?
Tox is used to treat areas where “dynamic wrinkles” -- also known as "wrinkles of expression" -- occur.
If you raise your brows, for example, you might see one or more horizontal line run across your forehead; if you make “angry” brows, you may see wrinkles that look like the number 11; if you smile and squint, you may see lines extending from the corners of your eyes (“crow’s feet.”). These three areas are the most commonly treated areas.
CAN I GET TOX INJECTIONS IN MY LIPS?
Most of the time when we hear this question, what the person is actually looking for is to increase the volume of their lips. Tox injection cannot do this. The injection of hyaluronic acid filler in to the lips can ("lip augmentation").
That said, a few units of Tox strategically and expertly injected just outside the vermillion border of the lips is what is commonly referred to as a "Lip Flip", which does create a temporary (and subtle) outturning of the lips to make them appear a bit fuller.
Dermal Fillers FAQs
HOW SHOULD I GET READY FOR TREATMENT WITH DERMAL FILLER?
- Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements for at least a week before your appointment. This includes aspirin, ibuprofen, Aleve, garlic supplements, Vitamin E, St. John’s Wort, and omega-3 or fish oil capsules. As always, if you are taking any of these medications under direction of a doctor, speak to him or her before discontinuing use.
- Inform us if you have a history of cold sores or Perioral Herpes before your appointment so that anti-viral medication can be made available to you
- Avoid alcohol in the 24 hours before your appointment, as it increases the risk of bleeding and bruising.
WHAT WILL I NEED TO DO AFTER TREATMENT?
Hands off your face! Do not manipulate the area(s) treated with filler.
If you SEE a lump, bump or asymmetry in your results, please make an appointment w/ Dr. Bowen so that he can evaluate and address the issue.
If you experience "blanching" (skin color being lighter or dusky), pain or feeling "hot" at or around the injection site, please contact the office. After hours, please go to Urgent Care for assessment.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BOTOX AND FILLER?
One of the most common questions we receive at Dr. Robert Bowen is the difference between Botox and filler.
Botox is a brand of "neuromodulator" or "neurotoxin" which relaxes the underlying muscles that cause wrinkles to form. Conversely, filler helps lift and "fill" areas that have lost volume or show wrinkles. Most of the time, it is a combination of both of these that truly produce the most pleasing results.

Vampire Facelift® FAQs
What is a vampire facelift?
A vampire facelift, also called a PRP facelift, is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that combines platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from your own blood with dermal fillers to improve skin texture, volume, and overall facial appearance.
How does a vampire facelift work?
A provider draws a small amount of your blood, processes it in a centrifuge to isolate PRP, and injects the PRP into targeted areas of your face. Hyaluronic acid fillers are added to restore volume and contour and provide a scaffolding for growth factors from PRP that stimulate collagen and elastin production.
What skin concerns can it help with?
A vampire facelift may help improve:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Mild skin laxity
- Under-eye hollows
- Overall skin texture and glow
Is a vampire facelift the same as a vampire facial?
No. A vampire facelift uses PRP injections plus dermal fillers, while a vampire facial typically combines PRP with microneedling to improve the skin surface
How long does the procedure take?
Most appointments take about 1hour, including blood draw, processing, numbing, and injections.
Does a vampire facelift hurt?
Most providers apply a topical numbing cream beforehand. Patients usually report mild discomfort, pressure, or slight stinging during injections.
What is recovery like?
Downtime is generally minimal. Mild redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness, or itching may last a few days to a week. Many people return to normal activities within a day.
When will I see results?
You may notice immediate plumping from fillers, while PRP-related improvements in texture and glow usually appear within 2–3 weeks.
How long do results last?
Results commonly last about 12–18 months, though maintenance treatments may be recommended.
Who is a good candidate?
Healthy adults with mild to moderate signs of facial aging may be candidates. People with certain blood disorders, active infections, hepatitis C, HIV, or those taking blood thinners may not qualify.
What are the side effects?
Common side effects include:
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Redness
- Tenderness
Rare but serious risks include infection, allergic reactions to fillers, and accidental injection into a blood vessel.
Are vampire facelifts safe?
They are generally considered safe when performed by a qualified, licensed medical professional using sterile equipment.
How should I prepare before treatment?
Providers commonly recommend:
- Avoiding blood thinners and NSAIDs before treatment
- Limiting sun exposure
- Staying hydrated
- Arriving with clean skin and no makeup
What should I avoid after the procedure?
Aftercare often includes avoiding:
- Heavy exercise for 24–48 hours
- Excess sun exposure
- Makeup for the first day
- Touching or rubbing the treated area excessively
Are the results permanent?
No. The effects gradually fade over time, so maintenance sessions are usually needed to sustain results.

Vampire Facial® FAQs
What is a Vampire Facial®?
The Vampire Facial® is a regenerative skin rejuvenation procedure that combines platelet-rich plasma (PRP) derived from your own blood with precision microneedling to stimulate collagen production, improve skin quality, and enhance overall facial vitality
Why is it called “Vampire Facial”?
The name highlights the use of the patients’ blood and the goal of looking perpetually young (LOL).
How does the procedure work?
A small blood sample is obtained and processed to isolate growth-factor-rich plasma. Microneedling creates controlled microchannels in the skin, allowing these biologically active growth factors to penetrate deeply and activate the body’s natural repair and rejuvenation pathways.
What concerns can this treatment address?
The procedure may improve:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Dull or uneven skin tone
- Mild skin laxity
- Acne scarring
- Texture irregularities
- Enlarged pores
- Early signs of aging
- Overall skin radiance and firmness
Is the procedure painful?
Most patients tolerate the treatment very well. A topical numbing cream is typically applied beforehand to minimize discomfort. Patients commonly describe the sensation as mild vibration, pressure, or light scratching.
How long does the procedure take?
Most sessions require approximately 45–75 minutes, including preparation and numbing time.
What is recovery like?
Patients usually experience temporary redness similar to a moderate sunburn for 24–72 hours. Mild swelling, dryness, or skin sensitivity may occur for several days as the skin undergoes active remodeling and repair.
When will I see results?
Many patients notice improved glow and skin texture within the first 1–2 weeks. Collagen remodeling continues gradually over several weeks, with optimal improvements often becoming more apparent over 1–3 months.
How many treatments are recommended?
Treatment plans are individualized. Many patients benefit from a series of 3 treatments spaced approximately 4–6 weeks apart, followed by maintenance sessions as needed
Is this different from dermal fillers or Botox?
Yes. Fillers primarily restore volume and botulinum toxins decrease the wrinkles that come from the muscles of facial expression. The Vampire Facial® focuses more on improving the biological quality of the skin itself — including texture, elasticity, tone, and collagen support.
Is the plasma safe?
Because the PRP is derived from the patient’s own blood, the risk of allergic reaction is extremely low.
Who may not be a good candidate?
Patients with active skin infection, certain blood disorders, uncontrolled medical illness, active inflammatory skin disease, or those taking specific anticoagulant medications (including platelet inhibitors) may not be ideal candidates. A full medical evaluation is recommended prior to treatment.
Can this be combined with other treatments?
Yes. Many patients combine regenerative facial therapies with other modalities such as aesthetic laser, broadband light (BBL) , photobiomodulation, neuromodulators, and medical-grade skincare programs for a more comprehensive strategy.
Will I look “overdone” or unnatural?
No. The goal of regenerative aesthetics is typically to enhance skin quality and restore a healthier, more youthful appearance while preserving natural facial character and expression.
How long do results last?
Results vary based on age, genetics, skin quality, sun exposure, lifestyle, and ongoing skincare. Many patients experience improvements lasting several months, particularly when maintenance treatments and good skin health practices are continued.
Is there anything I should avoid after treatment?
Patients are generally advised to avoid excessive sun exposure, vigorous exercise, saunas, harsh topical products, and makeup for a short period following the procedure to optimize healing and reduce irritation.
Can men benefit from this procedure?
Absolutely. Men often seek regenerative facial treatments to improve skin texture, restore a healthier appearance, reduce signs of fatigue, and maintain a natural, high-performance aesthetic without obvious cosmetic changes.
Who is permitted to do a Vampire Facial?
Only providers who have completed Dr. Charles Runels’ approved training may use the trademarked name of “Vampire Facial”. Dr. Bowen was one of the first physicians trained in this procedure and has over 10years of experience with this technique.
Areolase LightPod NEO FAQs
What is the Aerolase LightPod Neo?
The LightPod Neo is a 1064nm Nd:YAG laser used for skin rejuvenation, acne, redness, pigmentation, rosacea, fine lines, and overall skin tone improvement. It uses very short 650-microsecond pulses designed to treat skin gently while minimizing discomfort and downtime.
Is Aerolase safe for darker skin tones?
Yes. One of the major advantages of Aerolase is that it is considered safe for Fitzpatrick skin types I–VI, including deeper skin tones, when performed correctly by a trained provider. The short pulse duration helps reduce the risk of burns and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Does the treatment hurt?
Most patients describe it as warm or mildly hot, but generally tolerable. Unlike many lasers, Aerolase usually does not require numbing cream or cooling devices
Is there downtime after treatment?
Downtime is usually minimal to none. Some people experience temporary redness or warmth for a few hours after treatment. Makeup can often be worn the same day or the next day depending on provider instructions.
How many sessions are needed?
Dr. Bowen suggests:
- 4–6 sessions for best results
- Treatments spaced about 2–4 weeks apart
- Maintenance sessions every few months if desired
Some people notice glow and smoother texture after one treatment, but collagen remodeling and pigment improvement usually require a series.
When will I see results?
Typical timeline:
- Immediate: brighter skin and mild tightening
- 1–3 weeks: improved texture and reduced redness
- Several sessions: reduced pigmentation, acne reduction, collagen stimulation, and smoother tone
Can Aerolase help acne?
Yes. Aerolase is commonly used for inflammatory acne because it can target acne-causing bacteria, inflammation, and oil production. Some patients report temporary purging before improvement.
Can it be combined with other treatments?
Yes. Aerolase may be combined with:
- Microneedling
- Botox
- Dermal fillers
- Medical-grade skincare
Combination therapy may improve overall results.
Who should avoid Aerolase treatments?
You may need to postpone or avoid treatment if you:
- Are pregnant
- Have active sunburn or irritated skin
- Are taking Accutane or certain photosensitizing medications
- Have active infections or unexplained skin lesions
- Have recently used Retin-A products
- Have a history of poor wound healing
A consultation is important before treatment.
Are the results permanent?
Results can be long-lasting, but aging, sun exposure, hormones, and acne can continue over time. Maintenance treatments and consistent skincare help prolong results.
What are common side effects?
Usually mild and temporary:
- Redness
- Warmth
- Mild swelling
- Temporary acne purging
- Dryness or flaking
Serious side effects are uncommon when performed properly.
What should I do before and after treatment?
Before:
- Avoid tanning and excessive sun exposure
- Stop retinoids if instructed
- Arrive with clean skin
After:
- Use gentle skincare
- Wear SPF daily
- Avoid heat, saunas, and intense exercise for 24–48 hours if advised
- Follow your provider’s aftercare instructions carefully
Spider Vein Treatment FAQs
What types of veins can be treated?
The treatment is most commonly used for:
- Spider veins
- Small reticular veins
- Facial telangiectasias
- Small red, blue, or purple superficial vessels
Larger bulging varicose veins may require ultrasound-guided vascular treatment or vein specialist evaluation instead.
How does the laser work?
The laser energy selectively heats blood within the vessel. This heat damages the vessel wall while minimizing injury to surrounding tissue. The treated vessel gradually fades as the body clears it naturally.
Does the treatment hurt?
Most patients describe the sensation as:
- A quick snap of a rubber band
- Brief heat or stinging
- Temporary warmth
Cooling mechanisms and pulse adjustments improve comfort during treatment.
How many treatments are usually needed?
Most patients require:
- 1–3 sessions for mild facial vessels
- 2–5 sessions for leg spider veins
The number depends on:
- Vessel size
- Depth
- Color
- Hormonal influences
- Genetics
- Sun exposure and circulation factors
What should I expect after treatment?
Common temporary effects include:
- Mild redness
- Slight swelling
- Darkening of treated vessels
- Temporary bruising
Many patients return to normal activity immediately. Compression stockings may be recommended after leg vein treatment. Sun protection is important during healing.
When will I see results?
Some vessels improve immediately, while others gradually fade over:
- Several weeks
- Occasionally a few months for leg veins
The body slowly absorbs the treated vessels over time.
Are the results permanent?
Treated veins generally do not return. However, new spider veins can develop later due to:
- Genetics
- Aging
- Hormonal changes
- Pregnancy
- Standing occupations
- Sun damage
Maintenance treatments are sometimes desired.
Is there downtime?
Downtime is usually minimal. Most patients resume:
- Work
- Exercise
Normal daily activity the same or next day.
Who may not be a candidate?
Treatment may need to be postponed or modified in patients with:
- Active infection
- Open wounds
- Significant tanning
- Certain photosensitizing medications
- Pregnancy (relative precaution)
Large symptomatic varicose veins requiring vascular evaluation
Can this be combined with other Sciton treatments?
Yes. The 1064 platform is commonly integrated with:
- BBL
- Halo
- Skin resurfacing
- Pigment correction
- Facial rejuvenation programs for more comprehensive cosmetic outcomes.
Laser Ablation FAQs
What kinds of skin lesions can be treated?
Common treatable lesions include:
- Skin tags
- Seborrheic keratoses
- Sebaceous hyperplasia
- Small benign raised bumps
- Certain benign moles
- Rough or thickened skin growths
Some lesions may require biopsy or pathology evaluation before removal.
How does the 2940 laser work?
The erbium laser precisely removes thin layers of tissue by targeting water within skin cells. Because the laser is highly precise with limited heat spread, it often allows:
- Faster healing
- Less thermal injury
- Reduced risk of scarring compared with some older methods
Is the procedure painful?
Most treatments are very tolerable. Depending on lesion size and location:
- Topical numbing cream
- Local anesthetic injections
How long does the procedure take?
Treatment is charged in half hour increments. Multiple lesions can typically be treated in 30 minutes.
Will the lesion come back?
Many treated benign lesions are permanently removed. However:
- Some lesions may recur
- New lesions can form elsewhere over time
- Certain genetic or sun-related conditions predispose patients to additional growths
What does healing look like?
After treatment, the area may appear:
- Pink
- Mildly raw
- Crusted or scabbed
Healing usually occurs over:
- Several days to 2 weeks depending on depth and location
Is there a scar afterward?
The goal is minimal visible scarring. Compared with some traditional excision or freezing methods, the 2940 erbium laser may provide:
- Smoother healing
- Better cosmetic blending
- Reduced textural change
However, any skin procedure carries some risk of:
- Scarring
- Pigment change
- Persistent redness
Can lesions be sent to pathology?
Yes. If there is any uncertainty regarding the diagnosis, a biopsy or pathology specimen may be recommended before or during treatment.
What precautions are important after treatment?
Patients should:
- Keep the area clean
- Use healing ointment if instructed
- Avoid picking or scratching
- Use sunscreen diligently
Sun protection is especially important to minimize post-inflammatory pigmentation changes.

Advanced Skin Repair & Scars FAQs
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
The number of ProFractional treatments Dr. Bowen recommends for you will depend on your particular skin concern. Deep scars or wrinkles typically require more than 1 treatment.
HOW MANY DAYS OF 'DOWNTIME' SHOULD I EXPECT?
Typically 7 to 10 days of social downtime, with specific aftercare instructions that must be followed.
DOES PROFRACTIONAL TREATMENT HURT?
Dr. Bowen will apply topical numbing cream to reduce discomfort during the treatment; mostly, during treatment, the treated area will feel hot. Also, it is not unusual to wake up the morning after your ProFractional treatment with swelling under your eyes. This will get better as the day progresses.
Acne Treatment FAQs
HOW DOES FOREVER CLEAR WORK?
Forever Clear BBL uses 3 different types of light to approve the appearance of acne and shrink pores. The first BBL is a blue light that penetrates down into the skin to eliminate bacteria that cause acne. The second is a yellow light which helps to reduce inflammation and redness from acne. Finally, a red light is used to stimulate your skin’s natural healing processes.
WHY CHOOSE FOREVER CLEAR BBL?
Effective in fighting acne
For those looking for an effective way to deal with acne, this treatment offers noticeable results after 1 session. The total number of sessions needed for treatment varies depending on skin condition. We will help to plan a treatment plan to meet your individual needs.
Non-invasive
This treatment is non-invasive, gentle, and safe for almost all skin types.
What to expect after treatment
After your Forever Clear BBL treatment, your skin may be a bit red, but this is normal and will fade after a few hours. Your skin will look clearer with a reduction in pore size. Sun avoidance and sun protection are required after treatment.
HOW DO I PREPARE FOR FOREVER CLEAR TREATMENT?
As with other BBL applications, you will want to avoid the sun and protect your skin for at least a couple of weeks before (and after) treatment. Also, it will be helpful to us if you arrive at your appointment with a clean face -- no lotions, creams, etc.

If skin is sensitive after treatment, avoid these until sensitivity subsides:
- Scented soaps, lotions, and exfoliating creams
- Hot or cold water (use lukewarm)
- Acne creams and gels
- Rough clothes
- Aggressive scrubbing of any kind
- Swimming pools and spa with chemicals/chlorine
- Activities that cause excessive perspiration
For 2 weeks following treatment,

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
Multiple consecutive sessions every 1-2 weeks will be needed to reduce the severity of lesions. Future "booster" treatments may be required.
HOW MUCH DOWNTIME IS THERE WITH THIS TREATMENT?
You will be able to apply makeup and go about your day normally. You must, however, protect your skin from the sun.
