Advanced Skin Repair & Scars
ProFractional Laser Treatment
Sciton’s ProFractional laser is an FDA-cleared fractional Erbium YAG device that resurfaces and rejuvenates skin for improved tone and texture, but with less downtime than previous-generation laser treatments.
ProFractional is also effective for treating scars, whether the scars are from acne, thermal injury or trauma.
Dr. Bowen in fact developed a novel approach to treating burn scars utilizing the ProFractional laser, which he termed the “selective objective fractional technique (SOFT)”. (Bowen RE. A novel approach to ablative fractional treatment of mature thermal burn scars. J Drugs Dermatol. 2010 Apr;9(4):389-92. PMID: 20514799.)

Frequently Asked Questions
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
The number of ProFractional treatments Dr. Bowen recommends for you will depend on your particular skin concern. Deep scars or wrinkles typically require more than 1 treatment.
HOW MANY DAYS OF 'DOWNTIME' SHOULD I EXPECT?
Typically 7 to 10 days of social downtime, with specific aftercare instructions that must be followed.
DOES PROFRACTIONAL TREATMENT HURT?
Dr. Bowen will apply topical numbing cream to reduce discomfort during the treatment; mostly, during treatment, the treated area will feel hot. After treatment, you will feel like you have a sunburn, you may have some pinpoint bleeding, and the treatment area can be somewhat swollen. Also, it is not unusual to wake up the morning after your ProFractional treatment with swelling under your eyes. This will get better as the day progresses.
