About LightSheer DESIRE
LightSheer DESIRE laser hair removal gets rid of unwanted hair on the body permanently. It features two different types of handpieces: High-Speed Vacuum Assisted and ChillTip Sapphire. High-Speed Vacuum Assisted technology is generally for use on larger areas, such as the back or legs, while ChillTip Sapphire technology is used on smaller areas, such as the upper lip and sideburns. The laser utilized can either emit 805 nm or 1065 nm wavelengths. The ability to mix and match two different handpieces and two different wavelengths makes LightSheer DESIRE laser hair removal safe and effective for all skin types. Treatments are uniquely customized to meet each individual patient’s specific needs.
Benefits of LightSheer DESIRE
- Quick treatment
- Practically painless
- Long lasting results
- Good treatment for all skin types, including patients with darker skin pigments or lighter hair
- Can remove hair on any part of the body
How Exactly Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
Laser hair removal works by sending a wavelength of light through the skin that targets the pigmentation of a hair follicle. This way the laser doesn’t harm any of the tissue surrounding the hair follicle. The laser zaps the hair follicle and damages it to a point where it can no longer regrow. The laser will do the most damage when the hair is in it’s initial growth phase. Since the hair on the body, even in one location, is not always in the same growth phase, multiple treatments are required to ensure desired lasting results.
laser hair removal is a suitable option for patients looking to remove hair from one or more parts of their body indefinitely.
The customizable features of LightSheer DESIRE make it a very good hair removal option for a wide variety of patients. However, there are some patients who would not be good candidates for laser hair removal. Those with active infections, inflammations, viral, fungal, or bacterial diseases, active cold sores, or open lacerations on the areas to be treated will not be suitable candidates for LightSheer technology.
All patients should be in good health. Many patients interested in laser hair removal are tired of the upkeep demanded from other temporary hair removal techniques, such as shaving or waxing.
In order to determine one’s candidacy for laser hair removal, please request a consultation with our friendly Medical Aesthetician, Tiffany Bogaty.
LightSheer DESIRE Technologies
At the office of Dr. Robert Bowen, we are proud to offer both High-Speed Vacuum Assisted and ChillTip Sapphire technologies in order to meet the needs of each of our patients.
High-Speed Vacuum Assisted Technology
The Vacuum Assisted Technology is used to effectively treat larger areas of the body, including the back, legs, armpits, arms, abdomen, and bikini line.
- A vacuum gently suctions skin into the handpiece, pulling the target closer to the energy source
- Energy is applied to the target, spreading apart melanocytes and constricting blood flow
- The target is damaged and the suction releases the skin
ChillTip technology is good for treating smaller areas, including the upper lip, chin, sideburns, fingers, and toes.
- The handpiece cools the skin
- The skin is compressed and a laser beam damages the targeted follicles
Laser Hair Removal vs Other Hair Removal Techniques
Compared to shaving, plucking, depilatory creams, waxing, or threading, laser hair removal with LightSheer DESIRE is the most versatile hair removal system. It’s practically painless, pain free, and is good for use anywhere on the body. Plus, recent research has indicated that American women who shave can spend up to $10,000 and two months of their lives removing hair from their bodies. With LightSheer DESIRE, once the hair is gone – it’s gone for good. Additionally, it’s a highly cost effective option.
Patients are to stop all hair removal treatments, including waxing, threading, and depilatories, two weeks before their first treatment. The one exception to this rule is shaving.
We recommend that patients shave the treatment areas one to two days before their scheduled sessions.
In some cases, patients may need to stop or adjust their intake of certain medications or supplements before they can be treated. Patients should also make sure to wear sunscreen when outside for two weeks leading up to their treatment. If the patient has recently been sunburned, then their treatment may need to be delayed.
Depending on the size and number of areas to be treated, patients should expect for the entire procedure to take approximately half an hour or less. That’s one of the great things about LightSheer DESIRE – it’s super fast! There’s also no need for any gels or numbing agents, since it’s practically painless.
Both the patient and our skilled providers will be outfitted with protective glasses to shield their eyes from potentially dangerous light wavelengths. Your provider will use the predetermined handpiece, either the Vacuum Assisted or the ChillTip, to emit wavelengths at either 805 or 1065 nm. The exact combination to be used will be determined at the time of the consultation. Most patients find the treatment very tolerable.
Patients are free to return to their normal routine following the treatment. However, they should be sure to wear sunscreen or cover the treated area.
Recovery / Results
During the treatment, some hair follicles will shed right away. The majority of the follicles will shed over the course of two to three weeks. Following treatment, patients may experience some redness or swelling around the hair follicles. This is a good sign, meaning that the treatment is working; it will go away on its own quickly.
In order to achieve permanent hair removal, most patients will require more than one treatment.
This is because hair does not grow indefinitely, but in cycles. The laser will do the most damage to hair in the early growth cycle. Therefore, multiple treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart, are necessary to permanently damage all hair follicles in the early growth cycle and provide the patient with optimal results.
We ask all patients to come in for a consultation prior to scheduling their LightSheer DESIRE laser hair removal. During the consultation, the patient will have the opportunity to express their current hair growth concerns and why they are interested in laser hair removal. Please let our staff know about any medications or supplements that the patient is currently taking. In some cases, it may be necessary to adjust the dosage of the medications or supplements prior to treatment.
If the patient is a good candidate for LightSheer DESIRE laser hair removal, then we will work with the patient to develop a personalized treatment plan to best fit their body and lifestyle. At this time, we will also be able to discuss the cost of the treatment. The price of hair removal with LightSheer DESIRE depends on the number and size of areas being treated. In order to receive a price quote, please call our offices in Martinsburg, West Virginia to schedule an appointment.
